33.The Waiting Room

Shortly after, Addison arrived at the veterinarian’s office. The woman who had accompanied him thus far wished him luck before leaving. Addison entered the building, checked in at the reception, and registered, taking care to minimize interactions to avoid disturbing the other animals present. He then sat in the waiting room, holding his mysterious companion in his arms.
However, he couldn’t help but briefly show the animal to the receptionist. She, visibly troubled, exchanged a perplexed look with Addison. This reaction, though expected, confirmed what Addison already feared: the animal he had brought back was not ordinary. Meanwhile, an underlying tension seemed to hover in the air. The other animals, usually calm, reacted strangely to the creature’s presence. Despite this, the general atmosphere of the waiting room retained the serenity typical of a veterinary clinic.
Each minute that passed heightened Addison’s apprehension. The receptionist’s questioning look only fueled his unease. He knew the answer to the mystery was within reach, but he wondered if he was truly ready to hear the truth.
