23.The Impossible Search for a Taxi

In this remote area, taxis were nowhere to be found. Addison tried contacting several drivers via his smartphone, briefly explaining the situation. But the significant distance and the isolation of the location didn’t seem to convince the drivers. One of them, after notable hesitation, finally agreed to come pick him up, but the conversation remained awkward. Addison, careful not to reveal too much about his strange cargo, struggled to convey the urgency of his need. This lack of clarity made his exchanges tense and unconvincing.
Unfortunately, every call ended with the same result: either exorbitant rates or outright refusals. Meanwhile, the weather was worsening, making drivers even more reluctant to travel the distance to the veterinary clinic. The roads grew dangerous, and the few available vehicles preferred to avoid risky trips. With each failed attempt, Addison’s frustration grew, the urgency of the situation weighing heavier on his shoulders.
