While pre-Incan Peruvians consumed these dogs as food, the Incans considered them sacred and banned their consumption. Depictions of these dogs can be found on Andean ceramics and Moche vessels. According to *The New York Times*, Peruvian Hairless Dogs live 11 to 12 years, weigh up to 26 pounds, and stand 16 to 20 inches tall. They are lively, affectionate, and alert, and remain an important cultural symbol in Peru.
