Although not particularly intelligent or trainable, Chow Chows are known for their loyalty and protective nature. However, they are banned in many parts of the U.S. due to their reputation for aggression and high training needs. Despite their reputation, Chow Chow owners often dispute claims that the breed is dangerous. For example, in December 2020, a Chow Chow named Barney was featured as “Pet of the Week” on a local ABC station.
