The Eshima Ohashi Bridge, connecting Matsue and Sakaiminato in Japan, has become famous for its steep appearance in photos. The bridge’s 6.1% gradient looks extreme due to telephoto lenses, earning it nicknames like "The Roller Coaster Bridge."
In reality, crossing the bridge is much smoother than it appears. Built to allow ships to pass underneath, the bridge rises 144 feet (44 meters) and spans nearly a mile (1.7 kilometers).
