Cool and dark

It is hard to say for sure if the mother fox deliberately placed her kits in the storm drain, but experts suggest it is possible. Fox dens are usually cool and dark, ideal for protecting young from predators and extreme temperatures. The storm drain shared these features, which might explain why the mother chose it.
This behavior highlights the survival instincts of foxes, who adapt their habitat choices to urban or artificial environments when needed. These animals show great resilience in the face of human activity and changing habitats.
