Returning to their mother
Even though the fox kits were saved, their story was not over. The vet explained there was a good chance their mother was still nearby. Foxes are deeply attached to their young, and a mother fox might return to find her kits if they were put back where they were found.
The firefighters realized they still had an important role. If the kits were safely returned to their natural habitat, their mother might recover them, giving them a chance to survive in the wild. This gave the team new hope and a new mission.
