6. Some eggs are better for you.

Omega-3 fatty acids are known to lower triglycerides, a type of fat found in the blood. If you’re not a fan of foods naturally high in Omega-3s, such as fish, nuts, or seeds, Omega-3 enriched eggs can be a great alternative. Triglyceride levels below 150 are considered normal, 150–199 are borderline high, 200–499 are high, and 500 or above are very high. Not all eggs are created equal, and their nutritional value can vary greatly depending on how the hens are raised and fed. Hens fed a diet rich in flaxseed, algae, or fish oil produce Omega-3 enriched eggs that contain up to three times more Omega-3 fatty acids than regular eggs. While standard eggs contain about 30 mg of Omega-3s, enriched eggs can have between 100–500 mg per egg. Research shows that consuming Omega-3 enriched eggs can help improve heart health by lowering triglyceride levels and reducing inflammation. These eggs also tend to have higher levels of selenium and vitamin E due to the improved diet of the hens. Free-range and pasture-raised eggs are another excellent option, as they typically contain higher amounts of vitamins A and E, as well as up to twice the Omega-3 fatty acids of conventional eggs.
